George Mcdonald

George Allen McDonald, of Cat Spring, formerly of Uvalde, died at his home on November 26, 2018 at the age of 87.

He was born to Lemuel "Lem" McDonald and Alice (Agan) McDonald on January 14, 1931, in Poteet, Texas.

George was married to the love of his life, Wanda Shoemake, on March 1, 1952. George and Wanda were ready to start their life together when the U.S. Army decided they needed George to assist them! He would then serve in the Korean War in the U.S. Army from 1952 until his discharge in 1954.

George loved being a Mechanic and stayed in that profession all of his life. He could fix anything. Prior to his time as a soldier, he was employed as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic with Slick Airways in San Antonio where he returned after he was discharged. He was hired by Automotive Research Association as a mechanic at their test track facility in Uvalde where he worked for several years He was then hired by Southwest Texas Junior College as Head of Transportation and served in that capacity for 17 years until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda; parents Lem and Alice McDonald; his brother, Bill McDonald and wife, Dorothy; his brother, Donald McDonald and wife, Margie; his sister, Pearl (McDonald) Romans and husband, George; his sister, Marjorie (McDonald) Yow and husband Rees; and sister Celestine (McDonald) Patillo; his Father-in-law, J.R. (Tomie) Shoemake; his mother-in-law, Eunice (Sadler) Shoemake; his sister-in-law, Nadine (Shoemake) Hargrove; his brother-in-law, Leonard Geyer and brother-in-law, Johnny Jaworowski.

He is survived by his children; Chandra "Sandy" (McDonald) Sobieski and husband, Kim of Cat Spring, Texas; Glenn McDonald and wife Debbie of Uvalde; George F. McDonald and wife Lori of Uvalde.

He is survived by Grandchildren; Cody Sobieski and wife, Kelly of Katy, Tx; Kandis (Sobieski) Krueger and husband, Ryan of Bellville, Tx; Megan McDonald of Austin, Tx; McClain McDonald of LaBelle, Tx; Melinda (McDonald) Korczynski and husband, Ron of Uvalde; Morgann (McDonald) Crawford and husband Brad of Uvalde; Shawn McDonald of San Angelo, Tx; Tanner McDonald of Sour Lake, Tx and Taelyn McDonald of Alvin, Tx.

He is survived by Great Grandchildren; Jacob, Lillian and Anna Joy Sobieski of Katy, Tx; Kash, Kiley and Kate Krueger of Bellville, Tx; Aubrey and McKenzie McDonald of LaBelle, Tx; Atlee, Trace and Charlie Korczynski of Uvalde and Case Crawford of Uvalde.

He is also survived by his sisters, Dolly (McDonald) Eichman of Poteet, Tx; Fannie (McDonald) Jaworowski of Big Foot, Tx and sister-in-law, Gail (Shoemake) Naegelin of Natalia, Tx and brother-in-laws, Jimmy Shoemake of Devine, Tx and Tommy Ray Shoemake of Floresville, Tx along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A military funeral service was held on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Glenn McDonald, McClain McDonald, Shawn McDonald, Tanner McDonald, Kim Sobieski and Cody Sobieski.

Honorary Pallbearers were George F. McDonald, Jimmy Reavis, Harold Akers, Ryan Krueger, Brad Crawford and Ron Korczynski.
