Gertrude Meyer

Gertrude Louise (Balzen) Meyer of Knippa passed away on May 8, 2017 in Uvalde at the age of 91. She was born on August 20, 1925 in Knippa to Robert B.H. and Amalia "Molly" (Cook) Balzen. She married Gilbert Meyer on April 25, 1948 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa. She is survived by her beloved sister, Marian Trees of Portland; daughter, Dorothy Schawe and husband, Lee of Knippa; three sons, Richard Meyer and wife, Faye of Austin; Kenneth Meyer of Sabinal; and James Meyer of Brenham; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; and one great-grandson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial following in Knippa Cemetery. A reception will follow at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Raymond Schawe, Preston Meyer, Patrick Meyer, Neal Meyer, Nathan Meyer, Daniel Schawe, and Landon Meyer.
