Gilbert Borrego, Sr.

Gilbert M. Borrego, Sr. of Sabinal passed away on September 20, 2008 at his residence at the age of 85. He was born on July 10, 1923 in Sabinal to Eluterio and Antonia Morales Borrego. He married Esperanza Salinas in Sabinal on February 24, 1947. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Francisca Ybarra and Diana Silva and husband, John all of Sabinal; three sons, Gilbert Borrego, Jr. and wife, Mary Lou of San Antonio; and Ricardo and Joe Borrego, bothof Sabinal; five sisters, Juanita Vara and Elva Amescua, both of Uvalde; Olga Garcia of San Antonio; Bertha Desmond of Bare, Delaware; and Herminia Alejandro of Sabinal; one brother, Rene Borrego of Uvalde; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Eluterio Borrego; sister, Alicia Quirova; and brother, Benito Borrego. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Sabinal with burial to follow in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery.
