Gladys Myrtle Moerbe, 85, of La Pryor, Texas, having endured recent health challenges received her crown of life on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born on February 20, 1930 in Bishop, Texas to Theo and Clara Theiss. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Concordia, where she met her childhood sweetheart and future husband, W.O. Moerbe, Jr.; they married in Bishop on August 7, 1949. Following their marriage and the births and upbringing of their children, the couple moved to the La Pryor area to begin farming. Gladys was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Uvalde, and when able she was active in organizations and clubs within the church and community. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and then gifting blankets and quilts to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. Gladys was a beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and always had a hug and a smile for her family and friends.
Gladys is survived by her loving husband W.O. Moerbe, Jr. of 66 years, three sons, Walter "Sonny" Moerbe III and wife Louise, Randy Moerbe and wife Jan, and Merle Moerbe and wife Janet; one daughter-in-law, Sandi Moerbe; nine grandchildren, Jamie Allen and husband Dale, Jennie Chrismon and husband Cody, Christy Negele and husband Rick, Amanda Dockal and husband Larry II, Monica Atkinson and husband Jeremy, Zach Moerbe and wife Karla, Walter "Bubba" Moerbe IV and wife Beth, L.K. Moerbe and wife Darcee, and Justin Moerbe and wife Amy; seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother Theo Theiss, Jr. of San Antonio; two sister-in-laws Pauline Williams and husband Art of Kingsland and Dorothy Theis of Bishop; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Stanley Moerbe; and two sisters, Ruby Felder and Lorine Moerbe. Viewing starts on Tuesday at 1:00 pm and will continue until Friday, November 13th.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Uvalde, with the Reverend Dan Mueller officiating. A Christian burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Uvalde. Funeral arrangements by Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
