Gonzalo Longoria Garcia

On February 4, 2025 our dad, Gonzalo Longoria Garcia went to fly with the angels. He was born in Baytown, Texas on November 21, 1933 along with his twin brother Jesus “Chuy” Longoria Garcia. As a young child his mother, Josefa Longoria Garcia moved her family back to Mexico due to the depression in the U.S. since Mexico was the land of milk and honey back then. As a young man he would go pick cherries in Washington State, go to Chicago and other states to pick fruits. He ate so many strawberries that he never wanted to eat them anymore. He made his way back to Uvalde where he met the love of his life, Mary Rosario, and soon they married on December 3, 1957. They then moved to Houston where he started a new chapter in his life. He worked in construction and started a new trade as a brick mason. Soon their family started to grow. We would go fishing almost every weekend on the Jetties in Galveston, Texas and would always come home with a big catch. We lived in Houston till January 1974 that’s when he brought his family to live in Uvalde.

He started his new business here building hundreds of fireplaces, bricked up hundreds of homes and buildings. My favorite the now called TXN Bank and Country Gardens & Seed building where he and his son in law, Johnny Joe Moreno, built together. When people would see me, they would say they never had any problems with their fire places built by my dad. People were always on the list because they wanted him to build their fire places. Building apartments, bricking custom homes, all around the areas Uvalde, Knippa, Leakey, Sabinal, La Pryor School, DelRio, Batesville, Concan, Eagle Pass and more also working on Robb School. He worked with great builders, Jerry Rogers, Billy Joe Rudinger, Wilson Ryland, Rodney Studer, Don Anderson, Bob Berry, Bennett Construction, Pat Phillips, Greg Fry, Dick Story, Maurice Odgen, Herby Ham, Ronnie Dalton, Tony Zamarripa and so many others. He loved fishing on the Nueces and Frio River, gardening was his passion always experimenting. He loved his Church’s fried chicken thighs.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Rosario, his children Yolanda and husband Johnny Joe Moreno, Deanna and husband Joel Sanchez, Lisa and husband Gabriel Salazar, Jimmy and wife Mayela Garcia Castanon, Suzi and husband Tomas Rubio, his loving grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved so much and so proud of them, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Josefa and Graciano Garcia, brothers Matias “Memo” Garcia, Jesus “Chuy” Garcia and sister Nena Chavarria.
