Grady Griffin of Uvalde passed away on January 6, 2008 in San Antonio at the age of 78. He was born on January 14, 1929 in Edge, TX to Charley and Eunice Griffin. He married Thelma Joyce Richey on August 5, 1950 in Kyle, Texas. Griffin worked for several grocery chains throughout Texas and then decided to further his education by becoming a teachercoach and retired after 20 years of service. He is survived by a son, Greg Griffin and wife, Cindy of Uvalde; three daughters, Veronsett Atkinson and husband, Bob of Uvalde; Yvett Shugart of Victoria; and M'Liss Graham of Uvalde; two sisters, Jennie Lou Franklin of Bryan; and May Belle Pender of Fair Oaks, NC; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Atkinson of Uvalde; Kory Atkinson of Costa Mesa, CA; Kami Buri and husband, John of Houston; Tyson Griffin and wife, Kelly of Southhaven, MS; Cody Shugart of Victoria; Adam Shugart of Camp Pendleton, CA; Chris Graham and Jon Lee Graham, both of Uvalde; great-grandson, Carson Lee Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years; parents; two sisters, Susie Huskey; and Mamie Coneley; and four brothers, J.T. Griffin; Willis Griffin; Adelle Griffin; and Sonny Griffin. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 2:00 PM at the Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Ray Melton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Kory Atkinson; Tyson Griffin; Cody Shugart; Adam Shugart; Chris Graham; Jon Lee Graham; and John Buri. Honorary pallbearers will be Bodie Davidson; Gayle Watkins; Bobby Nave; Chris Perez; Kyle Walker; Gary Griffin; and Charlie Griffin; Ward Box; and the Town House coffee drinkers. Memorial donations may be made to the El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W. Main St., Uvalde, TX 78801; or to the charity of one's choice.
