Gus Neutze of Uvalde passed away on February 9, 2012 at his residence at the age of 73. He was born on June 3, 1938 in Leon Springs, TX to John and Margaret Neutze. He was one of eight children in a hard working family. He worked many odd jobs as a kid growing up trying to earn money such as cleaning chicken pens, pig pens and horse stalls, chopping wood, and working at service stations. Because of this, he developed the strong work ethic that his family is known for. His older brother, Pete, started a milk delivery business in the back of his pickup truck and the business grew from there. Gus moved to Uvalde in 1958 and bought the milk business from his brother in 1968. By that time, they had expanded the milk business to most of south and southwest Texas, running as many as 50 trucks and employing nearly 70 people. He was a partner and builder of Sonshine Cleaners in 1985. He built a packaged ice business, manufacturing plant, and distribution vault with his son, Tad, and soninlaw, Dennis, in 1987 and later the three of them were partners in TDG car washes and Storage Solutions ministorage complex, as well as many other business interests. He truly loved all the people that worked for him and he developed many longlasting friendships. Gus served as Mayor of Uvalde from 19992000. He served on the board of U.C.I.S.D. for three years. He served on the board of the Texas Laundry and Drycleaning Association. He was currently serving on the Uvalde E.M.S. board. He and numerous businessmen formed a prayer group and met each Wednesday morning for the past 35 years. Gus loved doing anything outdoors, but he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a loving husband to the love of his life, Barbara, whom he married on July 5, 1958. They were each others best friend. He was also a loving example of a father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He loved visiting with people and getting to know everyone in town. Gus is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara son, Tad L. Neutze and wife, Starr of Uvalde three daughters, Terri S. Rambie of Uvalde Sherri L. Elledge of Brackettville and Tane McGehee and husband, Dennis of Uvalde brother, Pete Neutze and wife Stephanie of Uvalde sister, Sophie Brookbank of San Antonio brotherinlaw, Joe Epp of Bandera sisterinlaw, Loretta Cheek and husband, Walter of Granbury eleven grandchildren, Chance Neutze Megan Neutze Cavender Neutze Shely Kocijan Summer Kocijan Whitney Rambie Barrett Rambie Sarah Haegelin and husband, Brian Laura Downing and husband, Charlie Jennifer McGehee Mollie McGehee two greatgrandchildren, Henry Haegelin and Gage Haegelin and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Neutze four brothers, Jimmy Neutze Frank Neutze Bobby Neutze and John Neutze and a sister, Elizabeth Black. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Getty St., Uvalde, TX. Rev. Nancy Willet will officiate.
