Hugh Ned Jones

Hugh Ned Jones “Rusty” to all that knew him was born January 26, 1944, in Junction, Texas to Gene and Froggie Jones.

                Rusty had many layers to his personality and his demeanor. You could only find him in starched jeans; a starched shirt and a cowboy hat. His rough and tough attitude could easily combine with a huge heart & an opinion on just about everything.  His deep and abiding love of Christ and family was unwavering. You just never knew what would come out of his mouth, but it was often entertaining and left you with a smile and chuckle.

He went to Heaven Saturday September 16, 2023 at the age of 79. Rusty is survived by his lovely bride of 59 years, Caroline Bess Jones; daughter Jae Thompson and husband Ross of Uvalde; Son, Jody Jones and wife Kimberley of Doss; and son Jarret Jones of San Antonio. He was a proud granddaddy of Madisyn Claire Jones, Kennedy Linn Thompson and Gavyn Clay Jones.

Rusty’s celebration of life will be held Friday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde.

                Having never met a stranger, leaving Junction High School to become a proud Texas Aggie from the class of 1966 was a natural step. Whoop! However he always attributed his Aggie diploma to his wife, Caroline, claiming he would have never graduated without her.

                His life journey after college took him to Coleman and Kendall Counties as an assistant County Agent and later as a County Agent in Kendall County, Texas. From Boerne back to Junction to manage a ranch then a hard landing in Uvalde where he worked for Gensco (later to become Uvalco) and finally as an animal nutrition and sales representative for Moorman’s Manufacturing company later to become Archer Daniels Midland. He is famous for coining the phrase “That deer feed would grow horns on a watermelon.”

                He wore many hats (mostly a cowboy hat of course), from a devoted husband and father to a deacon and Sunday school teacher in the Presbyterian Church not to mention numerous community hours to Uvalde County 4-H; Uvalde County Junior Livestock Show ; Uvalde Youth Rodeo Club; Uvalde Fair Association; and honestly wherever he was needed, he stepped in to do the heavy lifting.

Rusty will be dearly missed.  He will be remembered for his grit; work ethic; humor “aka” Rustyisms, punctuality (don’t be late); and his desire to help young people become strong adults.

                Rusty was preceeded in death by his parents; brother Herbert Jones; and daughter Jeri Linn Jones.

                In lieu of flowers,  the family asks that you make donations to Uvalde County Junior Livestock Show; the First Presbyterian Church of Uvalde or a charity of your choice.
