Irene Smallwood

Irene Farr Smallwood of Uvalde passed away on January 18, 2009 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimers disease. She was born on March 22, 1924 in Uvalde, Texas to William and Flora Farr. She married J. Gerald Smallwood in Utopia, Texas on December 6, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by one daughter; Gay Faglie and husband, Brian of Uvalde, Texas; one daughter-in-law Karen Smallwood of Henderson, Nevada; one son; Steve Smallwood and wife, Sammye of Uvalde, Texas; two sisters; Adele Huser of DHanis, Texas; and Louine Johnson of Sabinal, Texas; several grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son; Perry Smallwood and two sisters and six brothers. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 10:00 AM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Uvalde Memorial Hospital Regional Cancer Care Medical Center 1025 Garner Field Rd., Uvalde, Texas 78801; and Uvalde Hospice 1038 B Garner Field Rd., Uvalde, Texas 78801. Paul Stephens will be officiating. Pallbearers will be her nieces; Bonnie Jaks, Susan Bailey, Billie Ann Burrell, Kay McCauley, Claudia Sanford, Nelda Hicks, Cindy Moore, and Fayrene Meyer. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews; and past and present members of the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
