Ismael Cale Diaz Sr. of Uvalde passed away on June 23, 2011 at the age of 65 at his residence. He was born on August 25, 1945 to Pablo and Clotilda Canales Diaz in Uvalde, Texas. He married Maria Regina Diaz on June 8, 1974 in Uvalde, Texas. He is survived by his wife of 37 years and his son Ismael Cale Diaz JR and wife Quelinda of San Antonio siblings Carmen Rodriguez and husband Gregorio of Uvalde, James Diaz and wife Darlene of Nebraska, Paul Diaz and wife Vicky of Illinois, Rachel Garcia and husband Alex of Uvalde Josephina Mendez and husband Tony of Uvalde, Beco Diaz and wife Alma of Uvalde and numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Uvalde, Texas. He proceeded to graduate from Uvalde High School and then served honorably in the United States Army from September 19651970 during Vietnam. Upon returning to Uvalde, Cale worked at General Tire Proving Grounds while attending Southwest Texas Junior College where he would meet his future wife Maria Regina Leal. Upon completion of prerequisites he transferred to Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas where he completed his Bachelors of Arts degree with a major in English and a minor in Speech. On November 28, 1981 at 12:28 a.m. his one and only was born. After waiting seven years of trying to conceive a child, he felt his son Ismael Cale Diaz Jr. was truly his greatest accomplishment in his life. Second to his family was his passion for city administration and politics. He served on community council where he would find the desire to become the Assistant City Manager, and later serve as the interim city manager. A special thank you is bestowed upon Dorothy Jimenez and James Leal for their undying and unwavering devotion to my father for all these years. On behalf of those who supported my father before, during and after his time at the city, thank you for your loyalty and kindness to him and my family. Rosary will be held on Saturday June 25, 2011 and Sunday June 26, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the RushingEstesKnowles Chapel. Funeral mass will be held on Monday June 27, 2011 at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial will follow at Uvalde Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Martinez, Carlos Jimenez, Albert Mirelez, George Leal, James Leal, Beco Diaz, and Gilbert Saiz.
