J. Meyer

March 5, 1953 — March 21, 2017

John Clinton Meyer, 64, of Birmingham, Alabama, formerly of Uvalde, died on March 21, 2017, at his residence.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at 3 p.m. at Concan Cemetery.
He was born on March 5, 1953, in San Antonio to Mary Manning (Peters) and Edwin Clinton Meyer.
He graduated from Lee High School in Huntsville, Alabama in 1971, then from the University of Alabama in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
He married Cheryl Hendon on Oct. 14, 1978, in Roanoke, Alabama.
He was a rancher, and the family says he was a prankster with a positive attitude; and he loved his canine companion, Susie, sitting with her as she died.
He was the executive vice president of the Uvalde Chamber of Commerce, and also of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce in Georgia. He was the manager of membership and public relations for the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce in Alabama.
The family says while at the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, he lobbied for Interstate 575 near Atlanta, and traveled in the first car to traverse that road; he was a member of the Concan Cemetery group, and chartering president of the Upper Frio River Protection Association, Inc.
Meyer is survived by his wife, of Birmingham, Alabama; one sister, Louise Meyer of San Antonio; four cousins, William D. Meyer of Fulshear, L.C. Meyer of Lakeway, Neil Meyer of Washington, D.C., and Brian Meyer of Louisville, Colorado; and other cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
