J.A. Laning Jr.

J.A. Jake Laning Jr. of Uvalde passed away on February 18, 2011 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 91. He was born on January 1, 1920 in Llano, Texas to James Ambrose Laning Sr. and Norma Roxie Buchanan. He married Doris Frances Williams in Crystal City, Texas on May 16, 1942. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Doris F. Laning of Uvalde, Texas two daughters Sherry Herndon and husband, Dr. Elmer Herndon D.V.M. of Uvalde, Texas and Landra Dobbs and husband, Joe of Richardson, Texas two sons Lane Loyd Laning and wife, Patricia of Brownwood, Texas and Buck Laning and wife, Kim of Uvalde, Texas one brother Gale B. Laning of San Antonio, Texas nine grandchildren Whitney Cortner, Juston Dobbs, Barton Dobbs, Nicholas Laning, Jason Laning, Chelsea Laning, James J.J. Laning, Zack Laning, Kathleen Laning two great grandchildren Ryan Elizabeth Dobbs, and Creed Dobbs and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents one sister Marjorie Barr and one brother Suel H. Laning. Funeral services will be held on Sunday February 20, 2011 at 3:00 PM at First United Methodist Church with burial following in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bradford will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Juston Dobbs, Barton Dobbs, Jason Laning, J.J. Laning, Zack Laning, and Nicholas Laning. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Elmer Herndon, Joe Dobbs and Gale Laning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Uvalde.
