James Carnes Sr.

June 18, 1930 — October 28, 2012

James Ray Carnes Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 28, 2012, at the age of 82.

He was born in Hamilton, Alabama on June 18, 1930, to Josephine and Orvin Carnes.

After spending his childhood in Alabama, Missouri and Santa Rosa, Texas, where he graduated high school, he served in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier Coral Sea.

While stationed in Florida, he married Betty Gonder Carnes.

After finishing his commitment to his country he joined his father in Batesville, Texas, where they ran a successful farming operation in Batesville and Uvalde for over thirty years. He served on the board of directors of several organizations including the Uvalde County Farm Bureau, the Edwards Underground Water District, the Uvalde Bank, the Winter Garden Coop Gin, Winter Garden Growers and Frio Foods.

He was preceded in death by his parents his second wife, Jayne Carnes and stepson, Mason Easley.

He is survived by his son, James Jimmy Ray Carnes Jr. and wife, Amy Carnes granddaughters, Jami Rae Carnes, Jodi Carnes Strickland and husband, Joe, and grandson, Miller James Carnes.

He is also survived by his companion and best friend, Sandee Thomas and her family, Elizabeth and Marc Dupre, and her grandchildren, Katelynn, Mackenzie and Matthew Dupre, that he loved as his own.

He is also survived by stepchildren, Jennifer Mayer Aubert, Mimi Mayer and Mary Ashley Griffin.

Pallbearers are Steve Stoy, Danny Parker, Marc Dupre, Joe Strickland, Archie McFadin and Danny McFadin.

Honorary pallbearers are Miller Carnes, Bob Willoughby, Eddie Carnes, J Allen Carnes, Dr. Blaine Bennett, James Hensarling and Randy Carnes.

The funeral service will be held Friday, November 2, 2012, at RushingEstesKnowles Chapel in Uvalde at 3 p.m. with burial in Hillcrest Cemetery to follow.

The service will be officiated by Dr. Leslie Hollon of Trinity Baptist Church of San Antonio

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W. Main, Uvalde, Texas, Trinity Baptist Church, 319 E. Mulberry Ave, San Antonio, Texas, 78212 or ones choice.
