James Russell Cousins, age 77, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2017 in Vanderpool, TX, at the Bug Scuffle Ranch. He was surrounded by family and friends after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was at a place with which he had fallen deeply in love, and indicated that when he was gone, he wanted to have his ashes spread over the ranch so that he could reside there for eternity.
Born June 20, 1939 in Oil City, PA; he worked a wide variety of jobs throughout his life. He was a truck driver, a dairy farmer, a mechanic, a funeral home worker, a fruit farmer and proudly served in the United States Army to name a few. He was a man that knew a lot about a lot as a result of his diverse set of experiences and a love for research and as a result could visit with anyone; intelligently. Never one to sit idly by, he was always busy, always engaged and always wanted to make a difference. Living in numerous locales across the northeastern United States and down the east coast, his love for people and conversation thrived and he never met a stranger. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and generous to a fault. In his final years in Texas, he discovered a land that he loved immensely and he made many new friends
He is survived by his wife Judith Ann Cousins; daughters: Jay Ann Currie of Austin, TX and Dana Rae Cox of Orlando; sons Chris Cousins and Lynn Cousins of New Castle, PA, and Anthony Soliz of Kansas City; brothers Bill Cousins and Dennis Cousins and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by his father Leroy Cousins and mother Helen Cousins.
A private memorial service will be held on June 3rd in Vanderpool, TX.
In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
