James (Skeak) Lee Hensarling 78 of Uvalde passed away April 6, 2022 at PAM Health Specialty Hospital in San Antonio. He was born on January 29, 1944 in Enid, OK to Bobbie Autry Hensarling and W.A. Hensarling, Jr. James graduated from Uvalde High School in 1962. He attended Texas A & I Kingsville and graduated in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in business. After college he was a teacher and coach at Anthon Elementary. Later he went to work for First Savings and Loan of Uvalde where he was Vice President and Loan Officer. After working at First Savings, he went to work for the family business, Garner Abstract & Land Company, where he was an escrow officer and later became the Managing Owner. James retired from the title business in 2010.
James' two favorite places on earth were Big Bend National Park and the family river property, the Ponderosa in Montel, TX, affectionately known as "The Pondie". An experienced outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, canoeing, and skiing. He was an avid fan of high-performance cars and especially the Indy Car and Formula 1 racing circuits. His appreciation for music and singer/songwriters was second to none and he was always up to date on the latest home stereo equipment.
Ham radio was a passion of his. During the pandemic he focused on his ham radio hobby and became a certified member of the DX Century Club issued by the American Radio Relay League. He accomplished this distinction by confirming communication with over 9,000 individual contacts in over 100 separate countries.
James is survived by his wife Barbara Hensarling, children Amy Hensarling Carnes and husband James Ray, Jr., Sarah Hensarling Tafolla and husband Mariano of Uvalde, Desiree Schorp and husband Blaine of Jourdanton, Deanna Hill of Mexia, Kathy Ward and husband James of Seguin, Melody Langston and husband Daniel of Bandera, grandchildren Miller James Carnes, Robin Wright, Kami Buri, Tyson Griffin, Jamie Gugliotti, Nathan Ward, Mason Gates, Walker Ward, Jentry Rome, and
William Gates, brothers, Gary Hensarling of San Antonio and Robert Hensarling and wife Carrie of Uvalde.
