James Rose, Sr.

James David Rose, Sr. of Uvalde passed away on February 16, 2018 in Uvalde Healthcare and Rehab at the age of 89. He was born on March 14, 1928 in Uvalde to James Rose and Creasa Hokit Rose. He married Lilla Lee Mayes in Rocksprings in 1954. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; two sons, David Rose and wife, Catherine of Uvalde, Kyle Rose and wife Sue Ann of Brackettville; daughter, Marla Schaefer and husband, Alton of Ballinger; grandchildren, Charlotte Schexnider and husband, Joshua; Jim Rose; Brian Rose and wife, Devin; Charlie Rose, Brandon Schaefer; and Allison Schaefer; and great-grandchildren, Tyanna Zapata and husband, Gerardo; Roy Schexnider, and Jason Rose. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Rose; and sister, Frances Livingston. James served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of S. Getty Church of Christ, and a lifetime rancher in Uvalde County and Kinney County. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with burial to follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Ray Melton will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brian Rose, Charlie Rose, Brandon Schaefer, Joshua Schexnider, Roy Schexnider, and Roy Kothmann. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Poehler, Malcolm Richey, Bill Livingston, Bobby Shackelford, Chuck Gruenwald, Mike Harrell, and Dr. John L. Shudde. Mr. Rose's family is most grateful for the kind and compassionate care provided by the staff at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehab.
