Mr. James Edward Slim Stur
ant, formerly of Uvalde, passed away on February 5, 2009 in San Antonio at the age of 84. He was born on January 19, 1925 in Rochester, TX to Claude and Katherine Stur
ant. He joined the Navy in 1943, and completed a tour of duty in the South Pacific during WWII, and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Louise Gamel in 1943, and later moved to Uvalde, working as a carpenter for many years in the Uvalde area. He is survived by his three children, Jim Ed Stur
ant and wife, Patricia of Uvalde; Joe Stur
ant and wife, Jann of Camp Wood; and Kathy Stur
ant and fiance, David Bills of San Antonio; five grandchildren, James Stur
ant and wife, Karen; Michelle Belcher and husband, Hollis; Jana Britt and husband, Austin, all of San Antonio; Jacy Maples and husband, Buck of Hondo; and Jill Stur
ant of San Marcos; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Totsie Stur
ant of Sugarland; brother-in-law, Jerry Gamel of Katemcy, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Graveside services will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Paul Stephens will officate.
