James Clinton “Jim” Surber, of Uvalde, passed away on January 13, 2022 at the age of 77. He was born on September 17, 1944 in Uvalde to Clinton Walton Surber and Ruth Mary (Moore) Surber.
He married Patsy Traweek on July 6, 1968 in Uvalde.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Little League Baseball coach and a member of the Uvalde Gun Club. He was an avid fisherman and a member of the Uvalde Bass Club. He served his community in the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, six years as Fire Chief, and was awarded Fireman of the Year on several occasions. He also served on the SFFMA Certification Board.
Jim is remembered with love by his wife, Patsy of Uvalde, sister Sally Allen of Uvalde, son Bill Surber and Tina of Rockport, daughter Stephanie Noah and Jeff of San Antonio, granddaughters Faith Clark and Kevin of San Antonio, and Jordan Surber of Waco, great-granddaughters Katelyn Thompson and Haley Clark of San Antonio, a special niece Michael Carlin and Chuck of McKinney, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Billy Allen.
Visitation will begin on January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde.
The family invites guests to share in a meal provided by the Uvalde Volunteer Fire Department following the service.
