James "Jim" Marmion, Iii

January 14, 1950 — January 2, 2021

James “Jim” Richard Marmion, III, age 70, passed away on January 2, 2021 in Utopia, Texas. He was born on January 14, 1950 in San Antonio, Texas. After graduating from Alamo Heights High School, Jim attended New Mexico Military Institute and later graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. degree in English. Jim proved true to his high school superlative of “most adventurous.” He loved rural Texas, especially properties in Dimmit and Uvalde counties, and at the Texas coast. Piloting his own plane above land and water heightened his love of nature and his spirit of adventure. Jim was a rancher and loved construction. He was fascinated by how things work, how they are put together and ultimately, how they could be improved. In the center of his many endeavors – some risky, some quite creative, some devilish, some obviously practical – were his friends, with many of those friendships lasting from childhood. Jim, his smile and his laugh, will be dearly missed.

Jim is survived by his loving wife and partner, Heidi Hale Marmion and her daughter, Makayla Schawe of Uvalde, Texas; his daughter, Sarah and her husband, Paul Armendariz and their sons, Santiago, Pablo and Cayo, of San Diego, California; his son, Kes Marmion, of Rockport, Texas; his sisters, Sue Marmion of Rockport, Texas and Ann Marmion, of Boerne, Texas; his niece, Amy Estes and her husband, Tobin Scroggins and their daughters, Stella and Mabel, of Austin, Texas; his cousin, Dr. Scoot Childers and his wife, Dottie, of Loveland, Colorado, and their three sons, Chip, Richard and Scott, and their respective wives and children; and Jeanie Childers Beasley of Dallas, Texas and her sons, Will and Scott, and their respective wives and children, and her daughter, Liza Beasley Raynor and her husband and their children.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Dick Marmion; his daughter, Kate Marmion and her mother, Janey Briscoe Marmion; his uncle and aunt, Dr. M.A. and Ruth Childers; and his cousin, Keith T. Childers.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be announced once COVID-19 restrictions are past.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kate Marmion Rides to Radiation, P.O. Box 900, Uvalde, Texas, 78802, or the charity of your choice.
