Margaret "Jan" Saunders died peacefully in her Uvalde home early Monday morning, February 29, after a 9 month battle with cancer. She was 69 years old. Jan was born February 14, 1947 to the late Harold and Inez Donoho of Sabinal, Tx. Throughout her years in Sabinal schools, Jan was a friend to everyone she met. Because she was and has always been beautiful on the inside and on the outside, Jan was voted Captain of the Cheerleading squad, and Homecoming Queen. At the age of 2 she met her best friend and future husband, Dan "Baby" Saunders and the two have been inseparable ever since. Jan and Dan were married August 26, 1967 in Sabinal. Together they travelled the country from Alaska to Florida where they trained and ran thoroughbred horses from 1968 until the early 1980s. After returning to Texas, Jan and Dan owned and operated a hunting business from their ranch in Brackettville for a few years before starting a wholesale nursery business where they've worked together to produce beautiful oak trees, mountain laurels, palm trees, yuccas and more. Whether it was training horses, working ranches, or growing nurseries, Jan and Dan were always together, laughing, enjoying each others company and living life to the fullest. Of all the great accomplishments that Jan was a part of, she was most proud of her children, Scott and Kimberly and her 5 grandchildren, Madison, Parker, Chandley, Ty and Christopher. Jan devoted her life to her husband and her two children and served her family with selfless love, endless care, and complete devotion. Taking care of Dan, Scott, and Kimberly and being the world's best "Gran Gran" was the job she treasured most on this earth. Jan was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Jennifer Jill. She is survived by her husband Dan, her two children, Scott Saunders (Toni) and Kimberly Brown (Scott), 5 grandchildren: Madison Cox, Parker Brown, Chandley Saunders, Ty Cox and Christopher Brown, and her four siblings, Michael Donoho (Virginia) of Houston, Harvey Donoho (Carolyn) of Utopia, Don Donoho (Karen) of San Antonio, and Kim Bowen (late husband Bobby) of Utopia, and countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of Jan's life will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 11:00 am at Utopia First United Methodist, the Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Jan will be laid to rest next to her daughter, Jennifer Jill, at the Waresville Cemetery. Following the service and burial, the family would like to invite you to a picnic on the Sabinal River at the
Donoho Family Ranch where we will celebrate the life of this wonderful woman. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jan's name to Utopia First United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
