Gerald Franklin "Jerry" Brewer of Uvalde passed away on March 19, 2019 at his residence at the age of 83. He was born on November 25, 1935 in Llano, TX to Alice (Ellington) and James Ernest Brewer. He graduated from Llano High School in 1954. Jerry joined the U.S. Navy on February 19, 1957 and served most of his time as a sonarman aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Van Voorhis. He was honorably discharged on January 6, 1961. He moved to Uvalde to attend S.W.T.J.C. There he met his future wife, Mary Dale Stitts. They were married on July 12, 1963 in Uvalde and immediately moved to Langtry to teach school. After several years, with two children, teacher's pay was not enough so he became Produce Manager for Stewart's United Super grocery store. He then became Office Manager for Moore Tire Service and worked there until his retirement. Jerry is survived by his wife of 55 years; two sons, Tom Brewer and wife, Carol of Uvalde and Russell Brewer and wife, Kathryn of Palo Alto, CA; five grandchildren, Baxter Brewer, Bryan Hill, Leah Brewer, Hanah Watkins, and Colton Hoffmann; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on April 6, 2019 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. Memorial donations may be made to El Progreso Memorial Library, 301 W.
