Jerry Harrell

November 30, 1931 — May 17, 2017

Jerry Crouell Harrell of Fredericksburg and formerly from Uvalde passed away May 17, 2017 at Stone Oak Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.
Jerry was born on November 30, 1931 in Rio Frio, Texas to Fait and Jewell Crouell. Jerry married Jack Harrell in Uvalde, Texas on June 1, 1951
She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1950, where she was voted most popular, served on student council, was a cheerleader, played basketball and tennis.
After graduating high school and marrying Jack, they had their only child, Wayne Harrell of Fredericksburg, Texas in 1952. Shortly after the birth of their son, they moved to Corpus Christi where Jack had a long and successful career in oil and gas and Jerry worked as a dental assistant.
In 1973 they moved to Houston, Texas where they continued their careers, until retirement in 1989 when they moved back to their hometown of Uvalde. While in Uvalde, they became very active in the First Baptist Church, where Jerry had been baptized as a young girl in 1939.
After Jack's death Jerry moved to Fredericksburg to be close to her son Wayne. In the five years she lived in Fredericksburg she made many friends drinking coffee and visiting daily at the HEB coffee klatch.
Jerry had many passions in life, none bigger than her Church and attending Baylor University football games. She would say that even though she wasn't a graduate she bleeds green and gold. In 2008 both Jack and Jerry received honorary diplomas from Baylor University due to their longstanding commitment to the university and its football program.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved Jack, sister Nean Horton of Leakey, Texas, and sister Laurie Vaughn of Rio Frio, Texas. Jerry is survived by her son Wayne Harrell and wife Kathy, of Fredericksburg, sister Bo Allen and husband Sam, of Rio Frio; one granddaughter Jennifer Pyka and husband Nick, of Austin, Texas; and one great-grandson, Jackson Pyka of Austin. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, whom she dearly loved.
A memorial service was held Saturday, May 20th at the First Baptist Church of Uvalde with her niece, Dr. Vicki Vaughn, officiating.
The family suggests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Uvalde, Baylor University or charity of choice.
