Jimmy A. Chapoy went to be with our Lord at the age of 73. He died peacefully at home on June 16, 2014.
Jimmy was born on April 12, 1941, in Uvalde to Alfred H. Chapoy and Rebecca Chapoy.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of 48 years son, Jimmy Jr. daughter, Deborah and granddaughter, Alyssa Nicole. Also sister, Bernice C. Garcia and husband, Willie Garcia, of Uvalde brother, Alfred Chapoy Jr. and wife, Delia, of Pasco, Washington.
Jimmy comes from a long line of French ancestors. Felix Chapoy was born to Francois Clovis Chapoy and wife, Petra Nay Debaux, who came on a ship named, Ebro, and then headed to Castroville in 1842.
Jimmy grew up in Camp Wood working with this dad as a ranch hand. Later, they moved the family to Uvalde. Jimmy worked with Charlie Griffin Sr., raising goats for the stock show. He also worked for Mr. H. Ray, delivering gasoline to the surrounding areas.
Later, he worked as a truck driver, first for White Mines which was later renamed Vulcan Materials. He retired from trucking and went to work for Uvalde County Road Department.
One of Jimmys passions was playing baseball. He began playing baseball at the age of 21 with the Holy Name from 1963 to 1965. He is best known for hitting the ball out of the park. Later, he played with several Uvalde teams.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Adolph Chapoy.
Jimmy was a member of Sacred Heart Church. His funeral services will be held today at 10 oclock.
Pallbearers will be Rene Romero, Cody Taylor, Adolph Dundee Chapoy Jr., Willie Garcia III, Marcial Perez and Dennis Page.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Ramon Cano, Richard Contreras, Richard Sanchez and Edward Rodriguez.
