Joel Zapata, Jr.

Joel M. Zapata, Jr. of Uvalde passed away on July 31, 2016 in Uvalde at the age of 23. He was born on March 9, 1993 in Uvalde to Joel G. and Christina (Martinez) Zapata. He is survived by his parents; sisters, Jael Zapata, Esmerai Zapata and Elianai Zapata; brother, Ethan Zapata; maternal grandparents, Cleto and Guadalupe Martinez; paternal grandmother, Amalia Zapata all of Uvalde; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Antonio Zapata and cousin, Abraham Hernandez. A prayer service will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ethan Zapata, Paul Castillo, Fred Vasquez, Louis Alejandro, Gabriel Perez, Ben Martinez, Angel Martinez and Michael Zapata.
