Jose Luis “JoJo” Garces, 25, of Uvalde, formerly of Batesville, passed away on July 12, 2024 in Uvalde.  

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Batesville.   Interment will follow at Batesville Cemetery.   

He was born on September 6, 1998, in Weslaco, Texas.  JoJo, a beloved son, brother, uncle, friend and first responder will be greatly missed. He was a 2017 Uvalde High School graduate and began his employment with Uvalde Police Department in 2019.   

JoJo was very loving, caring, funny, outgoing and a jokester. He will always be remembered for his contagious smile and loving soul. JoJo will be missed by family, friends and his fellow telecommunicators and first responders.   

In his short 25 years of life, JoJo lived free spirited. He touched many lives and will leave each and every one of us with many long-lasting memories to cherish for a lifetime.   

He is survived by his mother, Rachel Garces and stepfather, Raul Cantu of Batesville, sisters, Monik Garces, Caelyn Cantu, and Zoey Cantu all of Batesville ; nephew, Nataniel Gauna and niece, Emma Gauna both of Batesville; father, Sabino Garces of Weslaco; paternal grandparents, Delia and Jose Luis Garces of Weslaco; two aunts, Lizette Priscilla Gomez and Amelia Sanchez both of Weslaco; two uncles, Jose Maria Garces and Francesco Garces both of Weslaco; and numerous cousins of Weslaco.   

He is preceded in death by maternal great grandparents, Cecilo and Dominga Herrera, step grandparents, Raul Cantu and Martha Cantu. 

 Pallbearers will be Dariela Avila, Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher, Makayle Perez, Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher, Dora (Dori) Elia Trevino, former Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher, Tricia Lesnak, Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher, Lorena Robles, Rockport Police Dept. dispatcher, Jose Olvedo, Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher, Lucinda Cruz, former Uvalde Police Dept. dispatcher.   

Honorary pallbearers will be Aunt, Leeann Cantu, Hondo Police Dept., #831, Bruce Ramos, Uvalde Police Dept. #314, and Justin Mendoza, Uvalde Police Dept.,#328.
