Jose Luciano Gonzales, 77, of Uvalde, Texas died peacefully at 1:41 am, December 28, 2017, at Amistad Nursing and Rehabilitation, Uvalde, Texas surrounded by his loved ones.
Born August 1, 1940 to Jacinto Hernandez Gonzales and Maria Martinez Gonzales in Uvalde, Texas. He married Francisca J. Gonzales on January 26, 1964 in Sabinas, Coauhuila, Mexico
Although born in Texas, his family came to Uvalde from Piedras Negras, Coahuilla to work. He soon learned those values of hard work when as a young man he lost his father and his mother was left to care for her still young children. He was raised with strong religious values including love for God, his family and his friends. He made a point and almost a duty to always look out for his loved ones, to which many will testify he did just that. From daily visits, birthday parties to weddings and graduations, he always was there for not only his own children, but for many of his nieces and nephews that had lost their father young. He graduated from Uvalde High School and his love for his city and the Coyotes was well known! Although he made the football team in high school, he was not allowed to play due to his after school responsibilities at home and part time job at Sacred Heart Church. That did not alter his love for the game, if anything it may have ignited a deeper passion and desire for sports. Baseball was one of his all-time favorite hobbies and you could often find that long bearded man, standing along the fence line, cheering on those Coyotes; his favorite pro team was the Astros long before they were called the Astros and became World Series Champs! Football games with the other, he always knew the quarter back playing, the tight ends, running backs, etc. always supporting his compadres sons, grandsons, nephews you name it, as long as they were coyotes, he was their fan! The Uvalde High School athletic department has lost one of its best fans who although unnoticed, always cheered them on.
He is survived by three sons, Antonio J. Gonzales and wife Paula, Jacinto J. Gonzales, Rogelio J. Gonzales and wife Isela, daughter, Marcela G. Cabralez and husband Jaime all of Uvalde, daughter Morima Navarro and husband Ezekiel of Mansfield, Texas and Stephanie Hernandez and husband Gaspar of Brownsville, Texas.
Also surviving him is 1 sister and 2 brothers: Diego Gonzales, Maria Ascension Gonzales and Faustino M. Gonzales all of Uvalde, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 53 years, brothers Pablo Gonzales, Jacinto Gonzales, and Ernesto Gonzales, sisters, Juanita Reyna, Guadalupe Gonzales, Isabel Gonzales, Antonia Gonzales, and Guadalupe Gonzales, along with two great grandchildren, Joseph Ybarra and Sam Munoz.
His greatest accomplishment and most loved possessions were his grandchildren which he leaves behind: 11 Grandchildren, Danika G. Velasquez and husband O.Z., Serena N.
