Jose Hector Mares left this Earth to join his heavenly Father on May 2, 2023 at his residence in Albuquerque, New Mexico (NM) at the age of 83. A viewing will be held on Friday, at 2 pm on May 12th at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas. A Prayer Service will be held at 7 pm on May 12th at Rushing Estes Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10 am on May 13th at Primera Iglesia Bautista In Uvalde, Texas. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Jose was born on September 3, 1939, in D’Hanis, Tx, to Guillerma (Ibarra) and Luciano C. Mares. He proudly graduated from Uvalde High School in Uvalde, TX. Following high school, he enlisted and served within the United States Air Force as an Administrative Technician. He retired after 25 years with multiple awards and ribbons as a Master Sergeant in 1985. While serving, he met and married the love of his life, Dolores Torres, on June 6, 1964, in Uvalde, TX. Together they had three beautiful daughters. As a civilian, he retired working for the Air Force Research Labs in their supply distribution center as a contractor in Albuquerque, NM.

Jose was deeply devoted to his beloved family. He was strong in his faith and active in his church as a deacon. The simple pleasures in life brought Jose joy. He enjoyed lively music and festive dancing with his family. He had an appreciation for delicious cuisine. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Dodgers, New Mexico Lobos and Texas Longhorns. He was also a known spirited player of cards and dominos. His personality and laughter were contagious. Jose never knew a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Torres Mares, of 58 years of Albuquerque, NM; three daughters: Patricia Mares-Angst (Ronald) of Albuquerque, NM, Clarissa Pennant (David) of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Marissa Martinez (Robert) of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Enedina Mares Limones of Uvalde, TX; brother, Lucio C. Mares, Jr. of Uvalde, TX; 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucio and Guillerma Mares, of Uvalde, TX, his sister, Eudulia Alejandro of Topeka, KS, his parents in-law, Jose and Josefina Torres of Uvalde, TX, sisters in-law: Estella Mares, Marsha Torres, Becki Torres, and Hermania Torres, and brothers in-law: Andy Limones and Ray Torres of Uvalde, TX.

Jose’s pallbearers will be Ronald Angst, David Pennant, Robert Martinez, Jacob Michalak, Jose A. Torres, and Andrew Broyles. Honorary pall bearers will be Lucio Mares, Joe Torres, Gilbert Torres, Armando Torres (Licha), Roy Torres, and Richard Torres (Antonia)
