Josefa Torres

It is with heavy hearts that the Torres Family of Sabinal, Texas announces the passing of their beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and sister in law, Josefa (Josie) Saiz Torres.  She passed away on November 9, 2021 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 55.  She was born on December 26, 1965 in Uvalde, Texas to Francisco D. and Eva (Saiz) Torres.

Known to many as “Pepa”, she grew up spreading her love to everyone around her, especially her nieces and nephews.  She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling, and joking around making everyone laugh.  Pepa attended Sabinal High School and Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde.

She is survived by her mother, Eva S. Torres of Sabinal; grandmother, Rosa L.  Anaya of Uvalde; brothers, Jesse Torres of San Antonio, Arturo Torres and wife, Jean of Schertz, Arnulfo Torres and wife, Terri of Uvalde, Jose F. Torres of Sabinal, Roberto Torres and wife, Janelle of Quincy, Illinois; sisters, Maria S. Torres and husband, Ruben Reyes, Jr. of Sabinal, Terry T. Riggs and husband, Jimmy of Fountain, Colorado, Rita Mata and husband, David of Uvalde, Rachel Gonzalez and husband, Juan of Uvalde; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her father, Francisco D. Torres; brother, Roy Torres; sisters, Rafaela T. Diaz; and Rosita T. Galvan.

Visitation will begin on Monday, November 15, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal.  A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sabinal.  Interment will follow at Sabinal Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be AJ Torres, Michael Torres, Marcel Torres, A.B. Torres, Jo-Anthony Riggs, Ethan Ruiz, Aiden Pollard and Freddy Aviles.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jesse Torres, Jose F. Torres, Arnulfo Torres, Arturo Torres, Ruben Reyes, Jr. and Jimmy Riggs.
