Joy Smith

December 28, 1951 — February 7, 2015

Joy Lynne Smith, 63, or Kerrville, Texas, went home to her Lord on February 7, 2015 at 5:00 a.m., at home surrounded by loves ones, winning her bravely fought battle against lung cancer.

Joy was born in Uvalde, Texas, on December 28, 1951, to William D. "Happy" Habluetzel and Ella Louise Oliphant. In early childhood, Joy, along with her two sisters, was lovingly adopted by Arnold L. Dube of La Pryor, Texas.

She attended La Pryor Schools and completed her schooling in Uvalde, Texas.

Joy was never afraid of hard work. She operated a gasoline service station, even changing tires, and oil for her customers. She later became an apprentice in the printing business while living in College Station. This led to her successful ownership of Joy's Printing and Office Supply in Uvalde for over 20 years. Most recently, Joy enjoyed her job as a Texas Hold'Em Poker dealer at Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Joy moved back to Texas in 2011 to be closer to her family and friends.

Throughout her life, she was an avid hunter, poker player, and loved to dance country western. Joy was a Christian, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Uvalde, and current member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, Kerrville.

Joy is survived by stepfather, Doug "DaDa" Johnson of Kerrville; two sons, Don W. Nunley and wife Kristin of Enid, OK; Zachery S. Gugliotti and wife Jamie of New Braunfels, TX; grandson Henry C. Nunley; granddaughters Ava A. and Morgan L. Gugliotti. Also, two sisters, Phillis "PJ" Schuster and husband Mike of Ruidoso, NM; Davella Ryno and husband Tommy of Kerrville, TX, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Johnson, Bill Habluetzel and Arnold Dube; and two nephews, Billy Gardner and Chance Gugliotti.

Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Uvalde, Texas, on February 12, 2015 at 3:00 p.m., with Rev. Donald Olson and Rev. Jim Mueller, officiating. Graveside service will be at Sabinal Cemetery.
