Juanita Ramos Briseño, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 23, 2021. She was born May 6, 1932 in Sabinal, Texas to Petra Ramos. She married her devoted husband, Carlos De La Cruz Briseño on June 3, 1956 and had 5 children. They shared a life together for 57 years, until the time of his death on August 2, 2013. Carlos always referred to his wife as “Mi linda esposa” and even serenaded her with this song at her 70th birthday celebration.
The Bible states that those whom the Lord blesses to be mothers should take the responsibility seriously. Mothers have a unique and crucial role in the lives of their children. Juanita was a living example of this. She will be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother; always putting others before herself.
Along with raising her own children, she helped raise her 8 sisters and 2 brothers. Being the oldest of 11 children, she had to start working at the very young age of 14 to help her widowed mother. Even after starting a family of her own, she continued helping her mother with her sibling’s graduations, weddings, cost of home repairs, groceries, etc.
Juanita will be remembered for her love of gambling. She loved going to casinos and playing the slots. She looked forward to saving her birthday money or Christmas gift money to take special trips to WinStar World Casino or Kickapoo, often accompanied by either friends, her sisters or her children.
She also enjoyed cooking for her family, especially on Sundays. Her kitchen was always open to not only her children and their families, but whoever her children or grandchildren brought home. We would often have conversations around the kitchen table, remembering how many people had partaken of her cooking, from friends, to neighbors, to anyone that just needed a helping hand.
Juanita is survived by 4 sons and 1 daughter. Carlos Briseño Jr., Richard Briseño, (wife Melba), Tony Briseño, (wife Annette), all of Uvalde, and Roland Briseño, (wife Kelly) of Austin, Texas.
