Decades of a person’s life can hardly be distilled down to a few paragraphs. Here will attempt to capture who Kurt was.
His life as a Cattleman at El Rancho Doce Robles in Uvalde County instilled a strong work ethic. So rare was the occasion he took time off, that the luxury of half a Sunday afternoon off to go swimming in the Frio River stands out as a fond memory for his children. Occasionally, work lasted well past sunset; sometimes bailing hay until midnight with his wife.
He enjoyed repairing and building things, essential skills he learned while growing up and working at the Ranch. His tool room was surprisingly tidy and organized even though for most of his life it was in constant use.
Rare was the photo that didn’t include a family pet. From his pet chicken as a child to a myriad of stray cats that he adopted later in life, he went out of his way to be kind to animals.
If he could have told us all goodbye, his words would probably be the same that he ended most visits with: Stay safe. And don’t become a statistic.
