Laura Belle Griffay Goodson was born on March 2, 1928 in Magdalena, New Mexico to William Townsend Julia Esterleen Boultinghouse Griffay. She grew on up on the family ranch in New Mexico and spent her twenties in Big Bear, California where she worked at a hosiery factory. She returned to New Mexico where she helped out at the family laundry and met a young man, George Kelton Goodson, who worked for the Santa Fe railroad. They married and started a family in Hatch New Mexico where their son, George, was born. Their daughter, Laura, was born in Socorro New Mexico. The family then moved to El Paso, Texas where daughters, Helen and Shirley, were born. Laura Belle was a life long housewife and she and her husband adopted Violet later in life. She raised Violet along with her granddaughter, Julia, as her own. Troubled with health problems in her later life, she lived with her daughter, Shirley, in Sabinal until her ill health caused her to enter a nursing home. She spent her last couple of years at the Pflugerville Care Center where she passed away on November 20, 2011 at the age of 83. She is survived by one son, George Goodson and wife, Linda of Sabinal, Texas four daughters Laura Eaves and Helen Chavez of Chaparral, New Mexico, Shirley Garcia and husband, Robert of Sabinal, Texas Violet Valley and husband Aaron of Round Rock one sister Faye Lisk of Miami, Arizona eleven grandchildren Julia Mancini, Harley Eaves, Georgia Molloy, Marla Sweiven, Laura Kay Goodson, Jennifer Garcia, Jessica Garcia Sebastian Valley, Mena Valley, Samuel Valley and Lillianne Valley and five great grandchildren Harley Eaves Jr., Cheyenne Eaves, Katie Belle Mancini, Camryn Molloy and Hayes Molloy with baby girl Sweiven on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, George Kelton Goodson one sister Audrey Goodnough, and one brother Ray Griffay. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Waresville Cemetery, Utopia, TX. Rev. Leighanne Brechin will officiate. Pallbearers will be Robert Garcia, Terry Goodnough, Sebastian Valley, Corey Molloy, Ricky Sweiven, and Bill Koelm. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Colvin and Warren Massey.
