Laura Kile Vickery of Uvalde passed away on May 27, 2010 in Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 94. She was born on February 15, 1916 in Henrietta, TX to Charles Virgil and Bessie Landrum Kile. She grew up in Ft. Worth and graduated from Texas Christian University with a degree in English and Drama. Laura taught in the Stephenville and Robstown school systems. She married Oscar William Vickery, Sr. on June 5, 1941 in San Antonio. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandchild, Lynne Biediger and a daughterinlaw, Elaine E. Vickery. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn Vickery Barnes and husband, William of San Antonio Oscar William Vickery, Jr. of Alvin, TX and Virgil E. Vickery and wife, Melanie of Spring, TX three grandchildren, James E. Biediger II and wife, Valerie of Pipe Creek, TX Katherine Biediger Warner and husband, Ernest of Danbury, TX and Kaete S. Biediger of Houston, TX and three greatgrandchildren, Stephanie Lynne Biediger Matthew Biediger and Caleb Warner. Laura and her husband, Oscar moved to Uvalde in the late 1940s where they farmed in Batesville, La Pryor, and Uvalde. She taught elementary school in Uvalde for several years and worked for the office of the County School Superintendent. She was a member of the First Christian Church for 50 years, and later a member of First United Methodist Church. She also held memberships in the Chili Peppers and DAR. After she retired, she traveled extensively, visiting Europe three times, Israel twice, Africa, India, and China three times. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 2:00 PM in Hillcrest Cemetery. Rev. Scott Bradford will officiate.
