Laurette Rich Nix passed away on June 1, 2015 at the age of 102 years; just 19 days shy of her 103rd birthday. She was born June 20, 1912 on a farm in Erath County near Hico, TX to John Edward and Louella Blair Rich. She attended a country school until she finished the 9th grade, and graduated from Carlton high school in 1931.
She was baptized Nov 7, 1931. She has been a very active member of the Church of Christ everywhere she has lived.
Laurette married Teddy Nix on Aug. 27, 1932. They had 2 daughters, Lellah and Nancy. Teddy and Laurette were blessed with 59 years of marriage. Early in their marriage Laurette and Teddy lived in College Station where he was a student and in north Texas where he taught after earning his BS in Ag Ed. In 1941 Teddy was employed by the USDA Soil Conservation Service and they lived several years in Alvord, Texas. They moved to Uvalde in 1948. In 1979 they returned to Hamilton in north Texas for their retirement. Laurette returned to Uvalde in 2000 to be nearer family, where she lived until her death.
Teddy preceded her in death Feb. 29, 1992. She is also preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, Willard and Wilmon, 1 sister, Grace Murray, and one son-in-law, Phil Holley, 3 nieces and 1 nephew.
She is survived by daughters Lellah Holley of Fort Worth, and Nancy Balzen and husband Barry of Uvalde, granddaughters Candace Clester and husband Brian of Perry, GA, Cindy Holley and husband, Jim Harless of Dallas, and great grandson Ian Clester, also of Perry, GA, 1 nephew, Jim Rich of Goldendale, WA and 1 niece, Velma Johnson of Lindale, TX.
The family will greet visitors on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hico Cemetery in Hico, Texas.
