Lemuel Wimouth Gass of Uvalde passed away on February 18, 2012 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 80. He was born on August 22, 1931 in Uvalde to Randolph and Elsie Havens Gass. He married Margaret Lillian Evans in Georgia on March 6, 1953. He is survived by his wife of 58 years daughter, Denise Staton and husband, Thomas of Boerne son, Randy Gass and wife, Erica of San Antonio four grandchildren, Kristen Ancillotti of Denver, CO Emily Gass of San Antonio Amanda Gass of Dallas and Nathaniel Gass of Austin brother, Paul Gass, Sr. and wife, Roberta of Uvalde and sister, Maureen Cave and husband, Bill of Winters, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents two sisters, Edna Aten and Lida Morgan and four brothers, Acie Samuel Gass T.J. Gass Donald Gass and Elmer Gass. Lemuel served in the U.S. Air Force from 19501954. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Uvalde as a mail carrier from 1961 to 1986. He served as the President of the National Assoc. of Letter Carriers and was a member of the American Legion. Lemuel enjoyed bowling, fishing, and hunting. He was a lapidarist, a wood worker, silver smith, and gardener. He loved to travel. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery. Mr. Paul Stephens will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Gass, Jr. Mike Gass George Morgan Wayne Cave Michael Olson and Tommy Arp.
