Lewis Ed Alexander, 84, formerly of Uvalde, died of cancer at his Kerrville home on Jan. 1, 2011 . Services will be conducted by Ray Melton at the Concan Church of Christ in Uvalde County at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 5, followed by interment at the Concan Cemetery .
Alexander was born on April 20, 1926 , in Burnet County , to Lewis E. and Gladys Dotson Alexander. His family moved to Uvalde in 1937. He graduated from Uvalde High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army of Occupation in Manila , Philippine Islands, and in Japan at the end of World War II.
Alexander graduated from Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and earned a degree in math from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos . He was a Math and Building Trades teacher and worked in construction and in real estate in Uvalde and San Antonio .
He married Jeanette Turner in Uvalde on August 16, 1946 . They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Concan church in 1996. Alexander served as preacher at the church for 41 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife Jeanette in 2002.
He is survived by three children: Ron Alexander and wife Nelda of Arkansas Dennis Alexander and wife Mary of Boerne Susan Alexander of Kerrville five grandchildren: John Alexander and Whitney A. Snipes of Arkansas, Miles Alexander of California Garrett and Alex Gathings of Kerrville four greatgrandchildren and sister Jane A. Knapik and husband Robert of Marble Falls.
Pallbearers were grandchildren and Clayton Reamer. Funeral arrangements were by RushingEstesKnowles Mortuary, Uvalde, TX, www.rekfunerals.com.
