Luis Carlos Chavez

Luis Carlos ("Lu") Chavez, 55, formerly of Uvalde, died in San Antonio on April 5, 2025.

Born in San Salvador, El Salvador on December 7, 1969 to Geronimo and Jane (Merry) Chavez, Lu was the youngest of four children. After moving with his family to Uvalde in 1974, Lu attended Uvalde public schools and participated in community programs including Rainbow 4-H and Special Olympics. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

At home, Lu was an integral member of the Chavez family. He traveled by minivan and airplane around the country on family vacations. He enjoyed listening to Tejano and country music on the radio and watching sporting events on television. Lu had a megawatt smile and a hearty laugh, and greatly enriched the lives of his family and friends.

Lu was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his sisters Linda Chavez (Juan Salcedo) of Long Beach, California; Merry Anderson (Brian) of Washington, D.C.; and Sandra Bellew (Porter) of Bethesda, Maryland, and by seven nieces and nephews and two great nieces.

The Chavez family extends its heartfelt thanks to Rosa Uriegas and her family, to Gabriela Salinas, and to other friends who helped Lu live his life to the fullest.
