Luis Toro Jr.

Luis F. Del Toro Jr. of Uvalde passed away on July 21, 2009 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 87. He was born on November 28, 1921 in Earle, Texas to Luis and Salome Del Toro Sr. He married Petra Flores of La Pryor in San Antonio, Texas on September 8, 1947. He was a Veteran of World War II, he proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army with company G. 232nd Infantry of the 42nd Rainbow Division his decorations included: Bronze star medal with a bronze oak cluster leaf, Good conduct medal, American campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal with 3 bronze stars, World War II victory medal, Army of Occupation medal with Germany clasp, and combat Infantryman Badge, Honorable service Lapel Button WWII, He was a life long member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the 42nd Rainbow Division. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Petra Del Toro of Uvalde, Texas; four daughters; Maggie Del Toro and Maria Del Toro both of Uvalde, Texas; Martha Del Toro of Austin, Texas; and Blanca E. Sal
ar and husband, Rogelio of La Pryor, Texas; one son; Juan Luis Del Toro of Uvalde, Texas; three sisters; Elvira Garcia of San Antonio, Texas; Eliza Paleo of Dallas, Texas; and Julia Longoria of San Antonio, Texas; one brother; Candelario Del Toro of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren; Greg and Erik Del Toro both of La Pryor, Texas; one great granddaughter; Alina Marie Del Toro of La Pryor, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; Javier Del Toro; four sisters; Emiteria Ortega, Isabel Van Raub; Guadalupe Levery; and Pilar Gaeta; three brothers; Armando, Federico and Juan Del Toro. A rosary will be held on Thursday and Friday at 7:00 PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Chapel. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Josephs Catholic Church in La Pryor, Texas with burial to follow in La Pryor Cemetery.
