Marcus Glen Burell of Uvalde passed away on May 26, 2019 in Uvalde at the age of 78. He was born on September 8, 1940 in Three Rivers, Texas to Hubert Hugo and Ella Matilda (Ohlenbusch) Burell.
Marcus graduated from Uvalde High School in 1958 where he was a member of the basketball team. He also attended Southwest Texas Junior College in Uvalde and the University of Corpus Christi on a basketball scholarship. He enjoyed arrowhead hunting, fishing, helping people, and meeting with friends over coffee to solve the world’s problems. He retired from General/ Continental Tire Proving Grounds in 2000 after 36 years. He spent his last 5 weeks at home under the wonderful care of the Uvalde Memorial Hospital Hospice personnel.
He married Barbara Newland on March 8, 1980 at the Circle H Ranch in Brackettville, Texas.
Marcus is survived by his wife of 39 years of Uvalde; daughter, Kayla Lee Burell of Uvalde; son, Marcus Cody Burell and wife, Kyla Schuehle Burell of Rio Medina; granddaughter, Phoebe Rose Burell of Rio Medina; sister, Joyce Evans and husband, Ron of New Braunfels; sister in law, Laura Burell of South Houston; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Delton Burell.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A private family interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to Uvalde Memorial Hospital Hospice.
