Margie Lou Mallory Nelson of Uvalde passed away on March 20, 2011 in Amistad Nursing Home at the age of 89. She was born on February 11, 1922 in Grand Saline, TX to James and Delma Short Mallory. She graduated from Van High School in East Texas. While living in Houston and working at the telephone company, she met her future husband, Andrew Johnson Nelson who was stationed at Ellington Air ForceArmy base. They married on February 20, 1944 in a little church in Houston. They moved to Tacoma, WA to complete his duty in the service during WWII as a pilot instructor. While in Tacoma, Margie gave birth to their only child, Bonnie Lou Nelson Koster. Soon after the war in 1946 the young family moved in with Andrews parents who resided in Reagan Wells while Andrew found work. When he found work at a service station in San Antonio, the family continued to stay with his parents for a short time. In 1950, they moved to Portland, TX and finally settled in Corpus Christi, TX where the family resided for 42 years. In 1950, Margie went to Houston Business School, and then later took a few additional courses at DelMar Jr. College in Corpus Christi, TX. In 1952, Margie went to work for South Texas Material Co. Then in 1958, she was hired by Humble Oil later renamed Exxon in Corpus Christi as a PBX operator. In 1971, she was chosen as PBX Operator of the Year at Humble Oil, and was promoted to mailroom clerk and then a Senior Clerk where she was a staffoffice assistant. She retired on July 31, 1986. In 1992, Margie and her husband moved to her husbands parentss place where they remodeled the old home in Reagan Wells where she resided until her death. She is survived by her husband of 67 years and daughter, Bonnie Koster of Brenham, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents two sisters, Syble Lee Mallory and Edith Schmidt two brothers, Floyd Mallory and Henry P. Mallory and a halfbrother, Haskell Mallory. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Reagan Wells Baptist Church with burial following in the Heard Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Julian Garza, Dick Peterson, Kenny Miller, Dexter Nelson, Philip Crow, and James Monroe. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Curry and Kenneth White. In lieu of flowers, stuffed teddy bears will be collected in her memory and taken to various orphanages. Memorial donations may be made to the Reagan Wells Baptist Church or the SWTJC Nursing School Scholarship Fund.
