Marguerite Conoly

Marguerite Eleanor Beidler Conoly, a lifelong resident of Kinney County, died Saturday, December 28th,2013 at the age of 89.

Gita was preceded in death by her husband, William Zuehl Bud Conoly, her twin sister and brother in law, Elaine Beidler Conoly and James Matthews Conoly a grandson, Weston Zuehl Conoly and her mother and father, J Francis and Eleanor Beidler.

Gita is survived by her three sons and their wives: Bill and Carolyn, Stan and Lisa, and David and Katherine. She was known as Welita to nine grandchildren: Claire and husband Jeff Pursley, Alanna, Charles Jacquelyn, Stanford, Zuehl Will, Wyatt, Wylder and four great grandsons: Taylor Nimmo, Rucker, Conoly and Crew Pursley.

She is also survived by her niece, Diane Conoly Brenan and husband John, nephew Jim Conoly and wife Robin, great nieces Tami Anders and husband Ross, Kirsten Hood and husband Ryan, a greatgreat niece Audrey Elaine, and nephews Cody and Cordell Conoly.

Also surviving is a sister, Mary Louise Beidler Mimi Kerr, nieces and nephews Neal Kerr, Jay Kerr, Elaine Kerr Wardlaw, Mary Kerr Hill and Andy Kerr, and a host of great nieces and nephews. Also, a brother in law and sister in law Walle and Shaaron Conoly and nephew Scott.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at 11 am at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, at the corner of Fort and Henderson in Brackettville, Texas. The Reverend John C. Fritts will officiate. Afterwards, Gitas family will host a reception at the Stan Conoly residence on the Conoly Ranch.

Gita was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 5th, 1924 and she and her sisters were raised on her parents ranch in Brackettville. Gita was home schooled along with her sisters until she began fourth grade at the Brick School, the original twostory school house built in 1908. She attended Brackett High School, was a feature twirler with her twin sister Elaine and graduated in 1942. Both girls wore buckskin dresses while receiving their diplomas in the High School Auditorium.

She attended the University of Texas at Austin and then studied design in Chicago, Illinois in the mid 1940s.

She married Bud Conoly at the Beidler Ranch House in 1947 and was a faithful supporter of their lives together. She loved the land and felt a deep connection to any plant or animal whether it flourished or struggled. Gita found simple natural beauty around her even in the midst of a drought.

She and Bud raised their three sons to be loyal brothers, husbands and fathers. She was also instrumental in helping to establish the Fort Clark Art Club. Gita had a passion for art, painting, design and a love of the Spanish language. She saw to it that her sons learned many of the old western and traditional Spanish songs. One of her favorite lyrics she loved was.Canta y no llores from the song Cielito Lindo.
