Maria Gonzales

Mrs. Mary A.”Chene” Gonzales-Ortiz of Uvalde, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 78.

Mary was born in Uvalde on January 15, 1943, to Jacinto H. and Maria (Martinez) Gonzales.

She married Oscar Y. Ortiz on August 7, 1963, in Uvalde.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Viola Rojas and Reymundo of San Antonio and Diana Ortiz of Uvalde; two brothers, Faustino M. Gonzales, and Diego Gonzales both of Uvalde; 5 grandchildren, Oscar E. Garza, Calletano E. Sanchez, Alfredo Pineda III, Trystian  Diaz and Noah R. Varela ; 8 great grandchildren, Alejandro (Axzel) Arellano Jr., Calletano E. Sanchez Jr., CalleLynn D. Sanchez, CaraLyn A. Sanchez, CyAnna C. Sanchez, Christopher R. Garza, Oscar R. Garza and Aliyah M. Garza; daughter-in-law, Theresa Diaz of Helotes; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces, great nephews.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband, son Robert Gonzales, great grandson Angel Sanchez, parents, two sisters, Guadalupe Gonzales and Antonia Sandoval and brother, Jose Luciano Gonzales.

Visitation for Mary will start on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A vigil and rosary will be held on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Oscar E. Garza, Calletano E. Sanchez, Alfredo Pineda III, Trystian Diaz, Noah R. Varela and Oscar R. Garza.
