Maria Zavala Acosta of Uvalde passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Kerrville, Texas at the age of 86. She was born on February 23, 1934 in Uvalde, Texas to Jose and Rosa Zavala.
She married Miguel R. Acosta in 1954 in Uvalde, Texas. She worked for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District as a school cafeteria worker for 20 years and retired in 1996.
Maria was a loving mother, grandmother, devoted wife and a caring friend. She was passionate about cooking and baking and filling her home with warmth and love. We will miss her greatly. The Acosta family is very appreciative to Peterson Hospice of Kerrville, Uvalde Hospice and CNS Hospice of Utah for all of the love and care they gave her during this past year.
She is survived by her children, Veronica Stokes and husband, Gary of Clinton, Utah, Diana Well and husband, Tom of Ecuador, Elsa Villarreal and husband, Roland of Kerrville, Mike Acosta and wife, Lourdes of San Antonio, George Acosta of Goodland, Kansas and stepdaughter, Rose Garcia and husband, Eddie of Pflugerville; 9 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sisters, Rita Gamez of Cresco Iowa , Angelina Del Rio, Emma Cruz both of San Angelo; and numerous extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Miguel R. Acosta; her parents, Jose and Rosa Zavala; sisters, Clara Zavala, Antonia Torres, Consuelo Garza; brothers, Jose Zavala and Juan Zavala.
Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7:00p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Santos, Adam Acosta, Gary Michael Stokes, Eddie Garcia, Roland Villarreal and Tom Well. Honorary pallbearers will Jacob Garcia, Roland "RJ" Villarreal Jr., Jarrod Ekwurzel and Gary Stokes Sr.
