Maria De La Luz Esquibel

Maria De La Luz Esquibel of La Pryor passed away on December 14, 2022 at her home in La Pryor at the age of 79.

She was born on September 13, 1943 in Pharr, Texas to Paula (Pruneda) and Eduardo Gomez.

She married Tomas Esquibel on February 6, 1965 in Elgin, Ill.

She is survived by her daughters, Melinda Almendarez and husband Edward of San Antonio, Mariselda Alvarez and husband Alvaro of Uvalde, sons; Ernesto Esquibel and wife, Debra of San Antonio, Hector Esquibel and companion, Menda of Uvalde, Tomas Esquibel, III and wife, Beatrice of Helotes; sister, Maria Alicia Pineda of Wisconsin; brothers, Jose Gomez of Arkansas, Roy Gomez of  Michigan, and Leonel Gomez of Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Christina Marie Esquibel; sister, Elvira Guerra; brothers, Domingo Gomez, and Jose Luis Gomez.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, December 18th at 12 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday December 19th at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in La Pryor, Texas with internment to follow at La Pryor cemetery.
