Marjorie Owen Kirchner, 101, died April 23, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born January 31, 1920, in Sanderson, Texas, to Clifford and Louise Armistead Owen. The family later moved to the Del Rio area to engage in ranching. She started school in Carta Valley, Texas, and graduated from Del Rio High School in 1936. She married James William (J. W.) Kirchner in First Baptist Church, Del Rio, on April 17, 1938.
They were the parents of two children, Marilyn Kirchner, born April 25, 1939, only living a short time, and Owen Ray Kirchner, who was born in Del Rio on October 1, 1942. Kirchner was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two children. She is survived by one sister, Mary Owen Manry, and one great nephew, Martin B. Manry, both of Uvalde. Kirchner enjoyed a life-long love of music and studied music at Our Lady of the Lake University after moving to Uvalde from Del Rio in 1965. She was a member of the Del Rio Music Club and the former Music Club of Uvalde, having served as president of both clubs, she was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an associate member of the Green Thumb Garden Club. She was a member of Baptist Temple Church of Uvalde, where she served as the church pianist a period of time.
On behalf of the Kirchner family, we would like to thank Maria Rosa Garcia, Leticia Galindo, and Elizabeth Avila for the love and care of Marjorie. A special thank you to Mrs. Gloria M. Tellez who cared for and loved Marjorie for 18 years and was considered a daughter to Marjorie.
