Martin Torres

Uvalde

Martin H. Torres of Uvalde passed away on June 12, 2019 in Uvalde at the age of 80.  He was born on July 27, 1938 in Sabinal to Fidel and Ysabel (Hernandez) Torres.

Martin was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He had a passion for working with and riding horses.  He was a self- taught leather craftsman and took pleasure in raising game roosters. He starred in the 1960 film, The Alamo and was fond of western movies.  One of his favorite past times was hunting and collecting arrowheads.  Martin was also a major fan of the Houston Astros, Oakland Raiders, Texas Longhorns and enjoyed watching his favorite teams play.  When visiting with friends and family he loved sharing stories about his past adventures and had a very unique sense of humor.  While working on his many hobbies, he often listened and sang along to his favorite country singer George Jones.  Everyone who knew him, knew him for his kindness and willingness to accept and love others like family.

He is survived by his daughters; Isabel Martinez, and husband, Felipe, Donna Torres, all of Uvalde.  Cassandra Torres of Knippa, Vashti Misai T. Hernandez and husband, Adam of Laredo; step daughter, Brisa-Mar Cantu and husband, Johnny of McAllen; son, Richard Torres and wife, Alicia of Crystal City; sister, Mary Talamantez and husband, Willie of Abilene; brother, Jesus Torres of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; Lisa Martinez, Victoria Martinez, Leana Martinez, Daniella Rodriguez, Stephanie Vargas, Ricky Torres, Toby Torres, Sarah Torres, Kathrine Fulton, Hope Lopez, Hector Lopez III, Marquez Lopez, Tres Cantu, Mason Cantu, and Brooklyn Cantu; 2 great grandchildren; Felipe M. Martinez and Giovanna Marquez and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and great grandson, Marco Antonio Marquez Jr.

A rosary will be held on Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.  A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Torres, Johnny Cantu, Adam Hernandez, Felipe Martinez Jr, Armando Sosa, Dr. Joe Talamantez, David DeAnda, Dr. Lucio Mares, Ricky Torres, Tres Cantu, Felipe M. Martinez, Toby Torres, Hector Lopez III, Marquez Lopez, Mason Cantu, Crecencio Cuellar II, Jorge Arturo Sanchez, Guadalupe Santana Jr, and Karlos Rodriguez.
