Marvin F. Kolinek, Jr.

Marvin Fred Kolinek, Jr. died August 10, 2023 at The Veranda in Uvalde,Texas. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 17 at 2:00 PM at Getty Street Church of Christ in Uvalde with King Burney officiating.  Arrangements are under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

Marvin was born January 18, 1935 to parents Wilma Clair (Carpenter) and Marvin Fred Kolinek, Sr. in Kenedy, Texas.  He attended Kenedy public schools before going to Texas A&M University. 

He married his high school sweetheart, Shirla Ann Bell, in 1955, and together they would raise three children.  After he graduated college in 1957, they moved to Uvalde where he was employed by Central Power and Light Company, with transfers to Pleasanton and El Campo. Marvin moved his family back to Uvalde and in 1980 went to work for BK Johnson Enterprises until his retirement in 2005.

Marvin was an active volunteer throughout his life.  His services included Uvalde Junior Livestock Show, Uvalde Little League officer, Uvalde and Pleasanton Rotary Clubs, and Uvalde Area Development. While president of Uvalde Quarterback Club he was largely responsible for Honey Bowl Stadium’s first cinder track, and he helped establish the annual Cowboy Homecoming celebration in Pleasanton.  In 2010, the Uvalde High School baseball field, where he spent countless hours maintaining the grounds, was renamed Marvin Kolinek Field in his honor.  He was steadfast in his faith and a longtime deacon and member of Getty Street Church of Christ.

Marvin was affectionately known as “Grandy” by his nine grandchildren and proudly supported them in their many endeavors.  He loved to be outside working with his hands on any kind of machinery, tools, or carpentry project.  Marvin maintained his private pilot license for many years and enjoyed airplanes.  Saturdays in the fall were spent at Kyle Field in College Station supporting his beloved Aggies.  Through the years other hobbies included growing pecan trees, umpiring baseball games, and processing game film for Uvalde Coyote sports.

He is survived by his wife; son and daughter-in-law Greg and Sherry Kolinek; daughters and sons-in-law Lori and Neal Brewster, Julie and H.T. Langford, Jr., all of Uvalde.  Grandchildren Adam Kolinek, Erin and Bric Walls, Linsey and Josh Robles, Allyssa Brewster, Ainslee and Landon Lancaster, Addison Brewster, H. Taylor (III) and Valerie Langford, Lawton and Selby Langford, and Nolan Langford.  Great-grandchildren Ryanne Brewster, Maddox Smith, H.T. (IV) and Charlotte Langford, Parker and Jackson Langford, James and Leighton Lancaster, and Rinley Robles.

Honorary pallbearers are Taylor Langford, Lawton Langford, Nolan Langford, Adam Kolinek, Landon Lancaster, Josh Robles, Bric Walls, Ed Stanfield and Bill Ed Kolinek.  The family extends special thanks to caregivers Virginia Ortiz, Francesca Jimenez, and Joe Esparza, and to Veranda Staff, Hospice nurses, and Nathan Lafrentz.
