Mary K. Latimer of La Pryor, formerly of Uvalde, passed away on May 17, 2010 at her residence at the age of 59. She was born on May 10, 1951 in Uvalde to Francis and Lorene Gremmel. She graduated from Uvalde High School in 1969, zipping through the halls in her motorized wheelchair. She is survived by her mother, Lorene Gremmel of Uvalde sisters, Patti Nowell and husband, Russell of Brackettville, and Laura Rauch and husband, Harry of Marion brother, Chris Gremmel and wife, Barbara of Bellville nephews, Cameron Nowell and Blake Gremmel nieces, Ashley Rauch, Courtney Gremmel, and Bailee Gremmel and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father. Mary fought a long and courageous battle with polio, which she contracted at the age of 13 months. She will long be remembered being seen around town in her motorized wheelchair with her beloved dog, Shaka. Although childless, Mary devoted much of her time to children, especially those at St. Philips Episcopal School where she taught computer classes. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 3:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Scott Bradford will officiate. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 301 N. High St., Uvalde, TX 78801 or to the charity of ones choice.
