Olvido Maria Medina, born on January 17, 1943, in Uvalde, Texas, left this world on January 12, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. Her life was a testament to love, family, and unwavering spiritual dedication. Known to all as a caring and loving individual, Mary exemplified the qualities of a devoted mother and a nurturing wife. She often put others before herself, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness that will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mary was the greatest mother, often referred to fondly by her daughters and sons. She delighted in being a homemaker, crafting an environment filled with warmth and kindness. Her legendary tortilla-making skills and her reputation as the best cookie maker in the world brought joy not only to her family but also to all visitors who graced her home. Her kitchen was a haven where family and friends gathered, and it was in that space that many sweet memories were created.
An avid baker, her love for cooking extended beyond just the culinary arts; it was an expression of her love for her family. Moreover, her home was adorned with walls of crucifixes, reflecting her deep faith and spiritual devotion, as she often reminded those around her "dios lo bendiga"
Mary's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly being a mom. She raised her children with immense love and nurturing, which continues to be a guiding light in their lives. Her family extends beyond her children; she is survived by three daughters: Martha Alicia Moreno, married to Ricardo Moreno of Sabinal, Bertha Lisa Reddick of Sabinal, and Enedina Neely/Jose Venegas of Kerrville. Her legacy also lives on through her four sons: Jose Luis Medina, married to Connie Medina of Uvalde, Juan Antonio "Sonny" Medina, married to Diana Medina of Sabinal, Andres Medina of Sabinal, and Jimmy Medina, married to Susie Medina of Sabinal. Adding to her rich familial tapestry, she leaves behind a sister, Patricia Rodriguez of Sabinal, and four brothers: Ramon Alejandro, Rodolfo Alejandro, Jose Alejandro, and Jesus Alejandro, all residing in Sabinal or nearby.
While Mary's faith and family defined her life, she is also reunited in spirit with those she loved who have passed before her, including her parents, Ramon Alejandro and Theodora Salinas, her brother, Jimmy Alejandro, and her beloved husband, Jose Luis Medina.
Visitation services will be held at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Sabinal on January 15, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, followed by a Prayer Service from 4:00 PM 5:00 PM.
Mary Medina's enduring spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched. Her journey through life has left an indelible mark— one of love, care, and the greatest accomplishments that come when the heart is at the center of a family.
