Mary ‘Marie’ Spires of Georgetown, Texas formerly of Uvalde passed away on May 2, 2021 at her residence in Georgetown at the age of 98. She was born on November 12, 1922 in Williamson County, Texas to Cordia (Bryce) and Joe R. Baker. She married Faber Franklin Spires, Jr., in Uvalde on January 19, 1951.
Marie was very close to her family and hosted many gatherings of family and friends in her home. She worked at First State Bank of Uvalde for many years and had fond memories of her time there. She loved to cook and was known for the best pecan, chocolate, and coconut pies. She made amazing divinity and guests often left her home with a tin full of the treat! She loved playing ‘42’ dominoes and everyone always wanted her to be their partner! Marie was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and belonged to the Georgetown Church of Christ at the time of her death.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Williams and husband Mike of Georgetown, Texas; sons, Norman Morse of Spicewood, Texas, and Marshall Spires of Fredericksburg, Texas; and brother, JR Baker and wife Loyce of La Vernia, Texas. Six granddaughters, Valerie Cecil and husband Cale of Lincoln, Illinois, Jaime Cawthron and husband Bobby of Fort Collins, Colorado, Tara Spires-Jones and husband Phil of Edinburgh, Scotland, Brook Marie Thompson and husband Brent of Bee Cave, Texas, Morgan LaGrappe and husband Patrick of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Whitney Williams of Lake Travis, Texas. Eight great-grandchildren, Garet and Matthew Buttry of Lincoln, Illinois, Ally Cawthron of Fort Collins, Colorado, Maxwell and Cason Faber Spires-Jones of Edinburgh, Scotland, Mikayla Marie, Westyn, Charleigh Cate Thompson of Bee Cave, TX, and twin great grandbabies that will be coming October 2021; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cordia (Bryce) and Joe R. Baker; husband, Faber Spires; brothers, Troy Baker and Ray Baker; and first husband, Randolph Morse.
The family would like to thank Heart of Texas Hospice, specifically Laura and Dominique, for their heartfelt care of our mother. We are forever grateful.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021, 5:00-7:00PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at 1:00PM at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary with interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
